Interview with a Passionate Florist in Valencia
Botanic Flora: What inspired you to open your own flower shop?
Salvatore: My first contact with flowers was through a florist friend in Italy. She introduced me to the world of flowers and plants, and that sparked my interest in getting into this artistic field. After working in several florists, I realized that opening my own business would be a great opportunity. In 1985, together with my wife, I opened my first flower shop, and then in the ’90s, I started a new life in Valencia, where I opened the shop I currently run.
Botanic Flora: What do you think makes your shop unique?
Salvatore: I believe that my passion and dedication to the work make it special. I love that my compositions convey the customer’s intention and joy. Having love and passion for your work ultimately reflects in each bouquet, and that’s what connects with the public.
Botanic Flora: What is the most memorable or unusual flower order you’ve received?
Salvatore: I remember several unusual ones. One beautiful order was for 365 gerberas, one for each day of the year. Another was for a wedding where they asked me to create a pumpkin with straw. And a particularly expensive, but stunning one, was a guitar made of carnations for All Saints’ Day, which the client absolutely loved.
Botanic Flora: How do the seasons or local culture influence the flowers you offer in Valencia?
Salvatore: In Valencia, the Fallas festival in March has a big impact, with the falleras bringing flowers, especially red and white carnations, to the Virgin. It’s a beautiful and emotional celebration where flowers play a key role.
Botanic Flora: If you could create a bouquet that represents Valencia, what flowers would you include?
Salvatore: Without a doubt, I would create a bouquet with sunflowers, as they symbolize the wonderful sunshine we enjoy here in Valencia.
Botanic Flora: What would your ideal day off in Valencia be like?
Salvatore: I don’t have many days off, but my ideal day would be a lovely horseback ride in nature, or a walk along the beach or the Turia riverbed.
